Hurricanes Visualization


A Visualization of hurricanes trajectories in the world using data from :

  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's project IBTrACS containing hurricanes and weather data from 1842.
  • Global Temperature Time Series from datahub.io including global monthly surface temprature mean.

Geo Hurricane

The GeoHurricane visualization allows you to view hurricanes and typhoons progression throughout the years. Zoom and pan using your cursor, and select the hurricane property you want to visualize using the bottom left dropdown menu.

With the seasons visualization, we can observe that the northern and southern hemispheres weather events occurs in differents seasons.

Hurricane Winds

Click on one hurricane trajectory point above to add the hurricane to the chart below and compare its winds to other hurricanes. Hurricanes can be removed by simply clicking on them.


Planet heating

This chart display two types of information in order to visualize any correlation between these two:

  • A line representing monthly average difference from mean reference temperature (calculated between 1951 and 1980) on Earth in °C since 1880 to 2016.
  • A histogram representing the number of hurricanes, typhoons and tornadoes in the world each year.

The chart allow to zoom in and pan along time axis. The second line chart bellow represent the full context of the first chart. It also allows to brush and zoom in the above focus chart.
